Abdominal

Abdominal is the artist today. A seriously dope cat from Toronto Ontario, and has worked with the likes of DJ Format a lot. He's done a song on his love for fast food, and it's FRESH!

My favorite track is Three Feet Deep, a track with D-Sisive and DJ Format. You can check the video for it right here.

Bonus - Rollin' With Saget

Just found it today:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5I0U4P9Imis

Jamie Kennedy's Rollin with Saget video. Yes, Bob Saget raps. it's classic.

Produced by D-Sisive, what!

D-Sisive

Artist: D-Sisive

Out of Toronto, too fresh, been making moves for more than a minute now, definitely worth listening to. This man has talent.

Check his song "Hi" or video "Three Feet Deep" with Abdominal (check tomorrow for that, I just gave away tomorrow's artist)

Transit

Transit is a dude from London, made some noise a few years back and now is missing in action. Seriously dope though. His first album was "Year of the Taurus", and I guess he followed it up with some others.

You HAVE to check the track "So They Say" on his New Music Canada page (right here).
I've been bumping this track for probably a year now, keep coming back to that page just cuz I can't find it on cd anywhere. SERIOUSLY dope.

I've had a lot of problems finding more info on him, but you might have luck scouring the net for Transit2000. Let me know if you find anything!

Bonus! - "Rapping is Easy" Article @ Vice Magazine

I thought this was dope, and Vice's take on it is funny.Dude impersonates 4 rappers SPOT ON. It's dope, check it.

The link.

Common Market

Today's Artist: Common Market

A 2 man group out of Seattle, Washington. The producer is the same as the one for Blue Scholars, and the MC is Ra Scion, who has a buzz going on by himself. These dudes are pretty ill, Ra is a really talented emcee with a good voice.

Check the track "Every Last One REMIX" it's fresh, and the horns make you nod your head.

Shad

I bet you guys were wondering when I'd drop this one. Well, here it is: today's artist is Shad.

www.shadk.com
www.myspace.com/shad

Coming straight out of the L-O, Shad has been making moves for a couple years now and recorded his first album, When This is Over, with money he received from coming in first place in the Rhythm of the Future music contest put on my 91.5 The Beat in Kitchener. If this weren't enough, Shad has an advantage over other MCs: he believes in his music. Every song is true to what he feels, and it really comes through in the tracks, you can tell that this isn't a man that's out to make a fast buck, but instead someone that wants to tell you what he's actually about.

Choosing a favorite track was hard, but I would have to go with "Outta Love". It's an honest portrayal of how he feels about women and his pleading them to think before dealing with the kind of guys that will mistreat them, and his frustration with them when they do. Plus, how can you front on lines like "If they treat you like a substitute teacher, it's probably cuz you have no class." All around a dope artist, one of my favorites. Be sure to check him out!

DJ Sauce

Today's entry is a bit different from the previous ones, because I chose a producer instead of an MC or group. Today I'm checkin' out DJ Sauce.

www.myspace.com/sauceproduction

Sauce is from Montreal, but has his roots back in T.Dot, and has been behind the boards for some years now. I actually don't have much info on him, other than his beats are funky, he has produced for B.Green and is doing the majority of his album.

Anyways, my track pick is a toss up between Gym Sock Funk and My Brown Hair Lady. Gym Sock Funk is just a funky track with a sax throughout that makes it seem as though he really put a lot of time and effort into this to really polish it up. My Brown Hair Lady uses a sample from King Curtis tastefully and incorporates it well. As always, check him out!

Notes to Self

Memo: Notes to Self are dope and deserve recognition.

http://www.notestoself.net/
http://www.myspace.com/notestoself

A Toronto based group but different members have done work in different countries. In the past they worked with DJ Serious on his Cold Tea project I believe. Anyways, not much to say about them, just let the music speak.

My choice for track is "Lifelines", the beat is bumpin' and has been stuck in my head the last week or so.

B.Green

Today's MC is B.Green, straight outta' Montreal.

www.myspace.com/thebgreen

Born in London Ontario, B bounced for Montreal a few years ago and has been reppin' his city more and more over the last few years. I'd recommend visiting his myspace if only to read the "About" section of his profile, it's pretty funny, with him joking about how he's trying to become the world's worst rapper (I told you that today's entry would be good.) Anyway, he's pretty dope, check him out.

My pick for best track would have to be Baby Jane, it sounds a little rough around the edges but you can't front on the raw talent he displays with his wordplay and flow: "....Strike two, was our first fight, you, tried to insight feuds, no clue what I might do..." It just seems to roll off his tongue. He has an element in his voice that can only be called the "Lord Roberts Drawl." Plus the singer on that track is fun to listen to, you really get into him by the end of it. I prefer the original over the remix (which is sadly now the only one available) but they are both dope beats. Recommended.

Wax Philosophic

Thunder Bay is Fly

Today I'm reppin' TB after someone introduced me to the group Wax Philosophic.

www.myspace.com/waxphilosophic

I've noticed two things over the last couple days:
1) myspace bio's on artists all sound the EXACT same (with the exception of tomorrow's entry) and
2) I've been feeling music that's a little bit more "out there" these days. Well, today is no different.

Wax Philosophic definitely isn't going to be for everyone, and they admit it on their site, saying that they don't really fit in a category (Conscious, Hardcore, Boom Bap, etc.) They actually sound like they have a flow from Quebec a bit to me, but it's true that I can't think of another group like them. Anyways, some will like them, some won't.

My pick for them is DEFINITELY "Scream". From the second it comes on the beat bumps, reminiscient of Ghost World by PSC.Luckyiam, with a sampled female vocal that hasn't been pitched past 20 (thankfully). The flows are on point and force you to nod your head.

Anyways, as always, check them out!

Atherton

Ottawa Love

Today's artist is from Ottawa, Ontario: Atherton.

www.myspace.com/bigblackath
www.myspace.com/athertonsire

He's a man that just has his own style and isn't afraid to take chances. His voice sort of reminds me of Heiruspecs, but that's where the similarities end. He might not be for everyone, but odds are you'll at least feel what he's going for.

My pick for top song is ATM. It seems like he had fun recording the track and it shows, with the lighthearted instrumental and toungue-in-cheek lyrics.

Kae Sun & DJ Seith

Starting Out

So a couple days ago I was talking about hip hop and realized that there are a LOT of groups out there there are dope, but just get lost in the shuffle, or are up and coming but havn't quite made it big yet.

This blog will showcase these artists. Even well known artists will get love. Even non-hip hoppers. The only criteria? It's GOOD music.
------------------------------------------------------------
For the first post I'll have two artists. The first is this this dude Kae Sun I found a few days ago after I heard he was playing in London.

He's orginally from Ghana but lives in Hamilton, Ontario now, and was nominated for the Hamilton Music Awards Recently.

http://www.myspace.com/kaesun

My Pick? Check the track "Let's Do It Again," it reminds me of Pseudo Slang a bit, he has a smooth flow and a sample based beat that you can just mellow out to.
----------------------------------------------------------
The next artist is DJ Seith. Hailing from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, he's been spinning for a few years now and his mixes have been getting better and better.

http://www.seithonline.com/music/index.html

My Pick? Check out the Mackan Mix, it's old but it's still a mix that gets continuous spins on my system.

He also has a Monthly Mix which gives you a pretty good idea of what he's been checkin lately. It's a pretty cool concept, I'd recommend it.
--------------------------------------------------------
Let me know what you think of the artists in the comments section!
